This little Tara was part of a large breeding colony in the Bay of Islands. It was a frenzied scene of fishing and feeding as adults cared for their young. I captured this lovely lady hovering for a moment while she searched for her nest, and I love the resulting image. She looks almost angelic, don't you think?
Although technically not endemic to New Zealand, this little trooper made it's way here independently, and for that we think she deserves some cudos. Their population is rapidly declining and they're considered at risk.
